In our Discovery topics in Year 3 we learn about pivotal human history stretching from tens of thousands of years ago in the Palaeolithic era of the Stone Age. Next, we move ahead to visit the Bronze and Iron ages, before finally reaching the Romanisation of Britain.
Along with this we take a look at our immediate surroundings and their relation to us on a compass and map, categorising the types of features we see. We also have a big focus on Science this year and particularly enjoy experimenting and recording all we can with our Discovery curriculum – this year this will include things such as light, magnets and forces, rocks and soils, plants and animals.
We also study a second language with French – lessons ranging from introductions to describing a shape with size and colour. Our Computing lessons look at programming, using the internet, the functions of each element of the computer – and a big focus on remaining safe online! There is so much more on offer, please refer to our curriculum overview to see for yourself.
Reading at home is encouraged both with physical books recorded in their logs and online with BugClub. Twice a week we tally everybody’s reads – the pupils with the most reads (not books) at the end of each half term are in with a chance of winning a prize!
TTRS is used to help engage and improve our multiplication skills – this can be used at home too, so every child can practise and become a superb mathematician.
We use Class Dojo to support home/school communication. We post updates on the School and class story and parents can see their child’s portfolio and message their class teacher.
