Year 2 – Continuing the Journey of Discovery and Growth!
In Year 2, your child’s learning adventure builds confidently on the strong foundations established in Year 1. Each morning begins with daily Sounds-Write phonics sessions, where children sharpen their reading and spelling skills through focused practice with phonemes, digraphs, and trigraphs. This is followed by engaging lessons in CUSP Reading and Writing alongside Write Rose Maths, deepening their understanding of language and numbers through interactive and enjoyable activities. Year 2 also marks the start of using Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS), an engaging programme designed to boost multiplication and counting skills. Children begin practising their 2, 5, and 10 times tables, laying the groundwork for confident maths fluency.
In the afternoons, our Discovery Curriculum takes children on exciting explorations of Habitats and Living Things, the historic Great Fire of London, and geography lessons where they investigate their local area, comparing it with other places while developing map skills and understanding routes. Creativity flourishes as children experiment with textures in painting and learn new skills like creating their own pouches using a running stitch. The year is filled with memorable enrichment opportunities, including exciting trips to places like Duxford and visits to the local Church. Our pupils also shine in the festive Christmas Production, proudly performed for families to enjoy.
We believe in strong home-school partnerships and use Class Dojo to keep you connected. You’ll receive regular updates and can communicate directly with your child’s teacher. Teachers also write termly reports and hold parents evening in the autumn and spring term.
