Headteacher Welcome to Westfield Primary Academy by Toni Kittle
Since joining the school as Headteacher in September 2019, I am proud to be serving a diverse and vibrant community who deserve the very best education we can offer. We have a new leadership team here at Westfield who are fully committed to the children and families we have the pleasure of working with. Our staff team are loyal to our onward journey and believe whole heartedly that Education changes lives.
We have top class facilities which enable children to learn and grow in a large, spacious, modern building with ample grounds. We have two large halls, a large on-site kitchen, three playgrounds and a sizeable school field.
We are two form entry setting and can accommodate 60 children in each year group from Reception to Y6. Each class is named after a bird and classrooms are housed within zones named after trees. We also have a 30 place nursery and can offer provision from the beginning of the new term which follows a child’s third birthday.
Our children access a large library which has been recently restocked with new titles. This is supported by £30,000 worth of class readers allowing children to access high quality texts every day. Each classroom acesses shared areas in which children can be taught in small groups. We have a separate design and technology area based in our Explore room, allowing children to bake regularly.
New playground equipment includes space hoppers, giant jenga, Connect 4, dominoes, target boards, French skipping, loombands and pogo sticks. In March 2020 we will welcome the installation of a scrap store to support cooperative play.
We believe in the importance of nurture and wellbeing at Westfield and are proud of the Aviary provision which offers social and emotional support for our young people through bespoke intervention. This is led by one of our 5 THRIVE trained facilitators who are qualified to offer such support following training which is underpinned by neuroscience.
Our lottery funded Family Support Practitioner works every Tuesday and Thursday in The Nest, which is based at school. She offers support to families on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. She leads sharing parenting courses including Raising Children, Raising Teens and Dads Matter courses. Currently, our Family Support Practitioner is working with our older pupils to raise self-esteem and improve body image awareness.
We offer high quality, competitively priced, daily wrap around care from 7am to 6pm via our Breakfast Boost and Woodlanders provision. Sessions are themed and snacks and hot meals are served. We have a 5-star food hygiene rating.
Our full curriculum includes sports coaching, French, Music and Forest School alongside English, Maths, Science, RE, Art, DT, History, Geography, PSHE, Computing and PE.
We currently offer 25 extra curricular clubs ranging from dodge ball, debating, yoga, and creative writing to gymnastics and boccia. We are proud of our sports teams who have already competed in swimming tournaments, basketball and athletics events this term. In March 2020, our wonderful choir took to the stage to perform at Snape Maltings.
Please do not hesitate to come and visit our fantastic school. I would be delighted to meet you, show you around and answer any questions you may have.
We look forward to hearing from you.
