Year 5 – A Year of Exploration, Creativity, and Growth!
In Year 5, your child embarks on an exciting Discovery Curriculum that takes them on a journey through fascinating topics such as Ancient Greece, the Mayans, and the wonders of Earth and Space. They will deepen their understanding of living things and their habitats, explore forces, and develop geographical knowledge with lessons on latitude, longitude, continents, and countries. Creative projects include making stuffed animals and building bridges, while learning about making healthy choices supports their personal development. French lessons introduce animals and life in France, and children explore storytelling through the theme Every Picture Tells A Story. For a full overview of the year’s exciting learning, please see our curriculum map.
A highlight of Year 5 is a memorable visit to Cambridge Museum, where children can engage with history and science firsthand. The year also includes a festive Christmas Carol Concert at the local Church, bringing the community together through music and celebration.
To support reading development, we use the Accelerated Reader programme both at school and at home. Children take quizzes to deepen their comprehension and foster a lifelong love of reading.
For maths fluency, especially in multiplication and division, children use Times Tables Rock Stars, making practise engaging and effective both in school and at home.
We believe in strong home-school partnerships and use Class Dojo to keep you connected. You’ll receive regular updates, termly reports, and have opportunities to discuss your child’s progress during parents’ evenings in the autumn and spring terms.
