KEY STAGE 2 CURRICULUM

Within Lower Key Stage 2 we follow the Essentials Curriculum to deliver English, Maths and Science to all our pupils.  This is enhanced by our topic themed curriculum commonly known as the 'International Primary Curriculum' which covers many other subjects including History, Geography, Computing, Art, Design and Technology, Music, P.E, and R.E.

ENGLISH

SPELLING, PUNCTUATION AND GRAMMAR - This is taught daily throughout Key Stage 2 to assist pupils in their reading and writing skills.  We follow a specific programme which shows progression across the Key Stage all the way up to Year 6.

READING - Reading is taught daily through whole class reading, group reading and 1:1 reading opportunities. All pupils from Year 3 to 6 take part in the Accelerated Reading programme to assist in the development of using and applying their basic reading skills; supporting pupils in becoming prolific readers by the time they leave us in Year 6.

WRITING - The 'Talk 4 Writing approach is followed across the academy to develop and improve pupils skills in writing.  This involves pupils learning, re-telling and writing through the model of 'Imitating, Innovating and Inventing' a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts from Reception through to Year 6.

MATHS

From Year 3 to Year 6 pupils follow the mastery approach in maths to ensure pupils have a deepening understanding of the key skills needed to become a good mathematician by the time the leave Primary Education.  Through using Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract methods our pupils continue to develop and build upon the basic skills needed in arithmetic and reasoning.
